Oakwood Healthcare System, Michigan Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary

Sandra Baughman features a looping power point of all the art of the employees on a huge 15 foot screen during the reception of the Oakwood Healthcare Arts for the Spirit Employee art show. As the participants walk in they are drawn to the big screen at one end of the room that is scrolling slowly through each and every person’s artwork. Some just stand and watch, some sit at the tables and watch the show, while other’s try to catch their piece on the next round and get a photo with it larger than life.

This represents the true reason for the National Arts Program, to showcase the artistic talents of employees that would never be seen otherwise. With only five years of this show under her belt, Sandra has it down to a science. Because Oakwood is scattered over a relatively large geographic area, and the artwork is hung in the hospital where the employee works, getting everyone to see the close to 200 pieces is almost impossible. The reception is a wonderful way to see all the pieces, including the winners. Well over 150 family members attended the reception and awards ceremony, including Executive Director of the NAP, Jackie Szafara.
