National Arts Program Gets Underway

Community Renewal Team is giving area artists a chance to showcase their local color as part of the National Arts Program. From now through Jan. 5 artists of all ages who live in Greater Hartford or in Middlesex County are invited to submit an original work of art created within the past three years, for judging and a gallery display at Capital Community College.

First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each of the adult categories of Amateur, Intermediate and Professional. First prizes are worth $300, second prizes are $200 and third prizes are $100 each.

First, second and third prizes also will be awarded in Youth (12 and under) and Teen (13-18) categories. First prize is $75, second is $50 and third is $25. An overall best of show prize of $300 also will be awarded. Each artist will receive a Certificate of Participation in the National Arts Program.

Works in all forms of visual arts are welcome. To enter, participants are encouraged to pre-register by Jan.5 and must deliver their works of art to the Capital Community College Lobby at 950 Main St., Hartford, between 2-5 p.m., Jan. 6-9. Only the first 350 entries will be accepted.

A free, public gallery showing will be held Jan. 21 - Feb. 9 at Capital Community College, open 7 a.m. - 10 p.m., M-F; and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday. An awards ceremony and reception will be held at the college on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
