Twenty-one talented state employees and their family members, recognized for their works of art as the results of the National Arts Program®: Delaware State Employee Exhibition and Contest II, were announced March 2. Approximately 400 people attended the opening reception. Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock and Division of the Arts Director Paul Weagraff presided over the awards ceremony. Jackie J. Szafara, Executive Director of the National Arts Program®, was on hand to congratulate the winners.
Twenty-one awards were announced in five categories - Professional, Intermediate, Amateur, Teen (13-18 years old), and Youth (12 years and under), culminating in one Best in Show Award. Sixteen cash prizes totaling $2,400 were awarded.
Two hundred and eight employees of Delaware state agencies and their immediate family members submitted artwork for the 2013 exhibition and contest. The participating artists came from across the state and represented 74 state agencies. The exhibition will be on view on in the Arts Center/Gallery at Delaware State University through Wednesday, March 20. Hours for viewing are 9:30 to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, with special hours between March 8 and 15. Visit for details.
Local winners include Mindi Schultze of Lewes, third place ($100) in the Professional category; Denise Powell of Lincoln, second place ($200) in the Intermediate category; and Lisa Lindsay of Milton, honorable mention in the Intermediate category.
The Delaware Division of the Arts is an agency of the state of Delaware. Together with its advisory body, the Delaware State Arts Council, the division administers grants and programs that support arts programming, educate the public, increase awareness of the arts and integrate the arts into all facets of Delaware life. Funding for division programs is provided by annual appropriations from the Delaware General Assembly and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
