Origami Brooches

Origami Brooches

The idea behind this work came from a found object that I bought at a small local antique store in Ames, Iowa. The object was made of cigarette packages folded together in a ring. I learned that it was classified as prison art and used as a trivet. I created a silver component that complimented the object; ultimately creating a bracelet. After I created that work, I took the folded ring apart and learned how it folded together into itself. From there, I created a smaller version of the bracelet using colorful paper with a mica coating and sterling silver. Eventually the design developed into brooches and pendants.
