Gary Albright

Drawing and painting have always been a part of my life from an early age. In junior high school I won my first cash award in an art show.  My high school art instructor, Ron Leatherwood, inspired me to continue painting and drawing at every opportunity. After graduating from OCU with an English degree, I studied the craft of painting for several years with Claude V. Anderson, a locally known portrait and landscape artist. Between 1987 and 1998 I participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Oklahoma and Texas, notably the first Oklahoma Painting Biennial in 1991.

After relocating to northern California with my wife in 1998 and earning an Environmental Studies degree from Sonoma State University in 2006, I resumed my artistic endeavors with an ongoing series of plein air landscapes and coastal scenes of Sonoma County.  I enjoy capturing the color and shape patterns found in nature, whether it be in found in cumulus cloud formations or the patches on a calico cat. 
My work has been described as having “Vivid hues and luminous light, seasoned with judicious amounts of deftly handled realistic detail [that] transform ‘ordinary places’ into extraordinary places…”
