Students learn how to use art to heal

Kids in La Crosse are learning about more ways to express themselves.

Artist Tyanna Buie made stops at Northside and Hamilton Elementary schools Wednesday morning to teach students how to screen print while also giving them lessons on how to use art as a way to deal with difficult life situations.

As someone who overcame a difficult childhood, she says art can help everyone express things they can't always put into words.

"There's something about (when) you have a lot going on in your personal life, there's all these things that you take in, so art is this amazing outlet that you put that energy somewhere," said Buie. "If you're not comfortable talking about your personal narrative, you can make art about it and then there's a conversation."

Buie was able to talk to students in La Crosse today thanks to a grant from the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
