First Time Participant Wins Third Place in Lubbock

Coordinator Paula Griffith knows exactly what to do to have a successful NAP Exhibit and this year she had yet another beautiful show. There were a total of 142 artworks hung for their 27th year with the program including several from first time participants. One first time entrant, artist Michael Sanchez, was encouraged by his coworkers to enter and ended up winning third place in the Intermediate category! Paula said that, “the best part of the NAP exhibit is experiencing the pride and excitement of the participants. This is especially true for the kids….and when they get that ribbon it is magical.” The perfect example of this came from youth artist Cassandra Ritchie who won honorable mention and when she picked up her ribbon she was brimming with excitement and joy. Paula said her reaction was so sweet that it made her heart melt.

The show was displayed in the Garden & Arts Center as usual and the awards reception was held on Friday, November 4th. Mayor (pro tem) Latrelle Joy, Assistant City Manager Scott Snider and Museums/Cultural Arts Director Brooke Witcher, were all in attendance to celebrate the artists. In fact, city management has offered to hang the winners next year right in City Hall after the exhibit ends. This showcase will be sure to attract attention and motivate new artists to participate in future NAP shows.

We thank Paula and everyone who helped for their commitment to continuing the National Arts Program® tradition each and every year. The talented employees and their family members are able to be part of something truly special thanks to Paula’s dedication.
